Join the Watershed Stewards Program and Sonoma Resource Conservation District to plant a variety of native species and remove invasives in an impaired watershed!
Learn to plant willows, buckeye, oak trees, and more!
Schiffington Creek is a small tributary to San Antonio Creek, the largest watershed within the Petaluma River drainage. San Antonio Creek had the largest steelhead run historically. Now it is impacted by high amounts of erosion and sediment.
This project will improve steelhead habitat by excluding cattle and enhancing the riparian zone to decrease erosion.
Snacks, water, and tools provided.
What to Bring/Wear: close toed shoes, long pants, refillable water bottle, and work gloves (some will be available).

- From the All Star Advisor-I would like to introduce you to our Sonoma County 4-H All-Star program. The All-Star rank is a working award. It is our county's highest youth leadership opportunity and those that achieve it are years in the making. To become an All-Star is quite a process and those looking to reach this level of leadership first must have earned their Gold Star. They then have to submit an extensive application, obtain letters of recommendation and go through an interview process before being selected to serve.The All-Stars are the leaders of our program for the entire 4-H year and truly are our resident experts on the 4-H experience. In addition, the All-Star team is in charge of our Rising-Stars; which is a program that allows younger youth to experience what would be required of them as an All-Star. It also gives the Rising-Stars more time together as a team as they progress to All-Star.
Each year the all-star team puts together and hosts the county-wide event, Achievement Night. This is a fun, interactive event that brings together the entire county 4-H program for one evening to be recognized for their achievements over the prior year.
The team also attends the monthly CCC meetings to keep everyone up-to-date on what they are doing. They announce and explain the many opportunities for club members to participate in county-wide events such as Achievement Night, Presentation Day, Fashion Review, Livestock Judging and Chickenque. Our younger members look up to this team and be actively involved with them throughout the year. Our All-Stars are a great source of pride for our program, and we are grateful for the energy and richness that they bring to our program.

- You See Davis Day Event Information
Calling all High School Students who are curious about what 4-H has to offer for college students! Come join the UC Davis Collegiate 4-H Club for "You See Davis Day" on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 for a day of exploration and fun on the beautiful University of California, Davis campus. The action-packed day will include activities that range from a tour of the campus by the UCD Admissions Office, a tour of a local animal science facility (such as the dairy or horse barn), a Q&A Session with Collegiate 4-H members and other UCD students from a variety of majors, and a service-oriented activity, to fun and games with fellow 4-Hers. Lunch and snacks will be included. We hope you can join us and bring your questions about college life and Collegiate 4-H!

- Sonoma County Fair Quality Assurance & Ethics Training Policy:
In order to be eligible to show livestock at the Sonoma County Fair, exhibitors are required to complete the mandatory Quality Assurance and Ethics training once prior to the age of 14 and once after. Specifically:
- Any livestock* exhibitor (excluding primary members) that has not attended the mandatory Quality Assurance & Ethics training must attend
- Any livestock exhibitor aged 14 (as of January 1) that intends to exhibit livestock at the fair must attend. (This will function as a refresher course for high school aged exhibitors.)
- Livestock exhibitors who have reached the age 14 (as of January 1) must attend the mandatory Quality Assurance & Ethics training
- Leaders and advisors must attend training once every three years
*Livestock includes all species (Beef, Sheep, Swine, Goat, Dairy Cattle, Dairy Goat, Rabbit, Cavy, Poultry, Pygmy Goat, Horse, Dog)

Happy Spring to all! The weather has been beautiful and we hope you're having the opportunity to enjoy it at the fullest! With spring breaks behind us it's now time to start gearing up for the busiest time of the 4-H year!
One of the most exciting, important and fun events for Sonoma County 4-H will soon be upon us! The 56th Annual Open House and Chickenque will be May 7st, 2017. Please help us show the public how great the 4-H program is by setting up 2 booths for every club showing your activities, projects, or community involvement! Thanks to our terrific CQ committee for working so hard to create a wonderful event for everyone. The enrollment system for signing up for jobs is up and running! Thank you to all of you that have signed up for Fair Appreciation Day! Your hard work and dedication is essential to make this event the best and show the Sonoma County Fairgrounds how much we appreciate their support. Remember that tickets are now available for purchase online and there is the option to purchase directly in support of a particular club. Spread the word!
All of you will soon be very busy with camp, fair and other summer activities so there's no better time than the present to catch up on those record books before time gets away from you. Don't wait till the last minute – start working on those books as your events happen! We hope you had the opportunity to attend record book training on the 30th, but if not please don't hesitate to ask questions if you need help! Thank you to the I&R team to for getting this much needed information to us!
We have two more CCC meetings this year and we will be electing a new council this year. If you are interested in any position on the board, please email me at tonyamanda@hotmail.com and we can make sure to get you on the ballot! Our board is fun, creative and is always looking for fresh faces and new ideas so please consider joining us!

- State 4-H Youth Development Program enrollment fees
State 4-H Youth Development Program enrollment fees will increase next year to cover increased program operation expenses. Starting July 1, 2017 the youth/adult enrollment fee will be $46.00/$16.00. The Sonoma County 4-H Council fee will be $17, bringing total 4-H enrollment fees for 2017-2018 to $63 for youth and $33 for adults. State 4-H program fees help support fundamental services, including insurance, program development, resources, events, required online systems, and staff to sustain and enhance exceptional programming. These services include: state events, participation in national events and mandates, and twelve statewide advisory committees; insurance, enrollment system, fiscal IRS requirements, evaluation requirements; and county-based 4-H staff. 4-H should be accessible to everyone and, therefore, fee waivers will continue to be available for qualifying families (contact the Sonoma County 4-H Office for more information).

We are reaching out to our community who work with youth interested in Agriculture with an opportunity at Bounty Community Farm. We hope that you can help us spread the word to the youth that you work with about an opportunity to oversee a Chicken operation at the farm!
We are seeking people, prioritizing youth, who are interested to apply for our Egg Layer Operation Opportunity! The full description is also below.

EGG LAYER OPPORTUNITY
Turn our weed problem into something delicious!
What we are offering: Here at Petaluma Bounty Community Farm, we have a 7000 square foot mixed orchard of apples, pears, plums, peaches and apricots, with grass alley's in between the rows. In the past, we have mowed the alleyways to control the grass, but now, we are looking at a more ecological and fun way to control the grass and pests! We are offering this space as well as access to close, clean water, and extra greens to an egg-laying operation. Additionally, we offer sales outlets at our farm stands and potentially other markets.
What we are looking for: A small scale egg laying operation, with preference given to youth projects and community benefit projects (4H etc.). This operation will need to provide all the components necessary to run the operation, including, but not limited to: housing/egg-laying boxes with enough space and security for the chickens (or other egg-layers), feeders, waterers, electric fencing and energizer. This operation needs to keep the animals welfare in mind at all times, and provide a safe, clean environment for them to thrive. The staff here can offer occasional support, but it will be your responsibility to make sure they are let out every morning, fed, watered, and shut in at night.
In lieu of rent, we would ask for eggs for our staff, amount negotiable. If this sounds like your operation, please send a description of your project, who will be responsible and a reasonable time frame for action. Email descriptions to farm@petalumabounty.org and we'll go from there.

- Position Available for 4-H Members:
My name is Nicole Canon, and I am the owner of the Animal Hospital of Sebastopol. I am reaching out to 4H leaders in hopes of spreading the word about a job opportunity at my hospital that could be a good fit for a 4H member.
The position is for a kennel assistant. The job entails feeding, cleaning, and medicating boarding and sometimes hospitalized animals and acting as a liaison between the boarding animals and the technicians and doctors. Cleaning the hospital, doing laundry, taking out trash and recycling are also very important components of the job. The Animal Hospital is a fast paced, fun and exciting environment, and we provide the opportunity to learn more in the field of veterinary medicine for those who are interested.
The position is 10-25 hours a week, usually 2-4 days a week. The hours are from 2-7pm Monday through Saturday, and 7:30 -10am and 3-7pm Sunday. The position is split between 2-3 kennel assistants, so each assistant would be working every other or every 3rd weekend and then 1-2 days during the week. I prefer applicants who are 18 or close to 18, as we are closed on Sunday, so the kennel assistant would be the only one in the hospital (unless of course they needed help, and there is always a doctor or a technician available). NGL Academy
I'm contacting you on behalf of NGL Santa Rosa, a pilot high school opening with funding from the Opportunity Education national foundation, that will open in Fall 2017.
The school has scholarships to offer for current 8th graders looking for a true alternative to high school learning. The school will open with only 9th grade next year.
