Pre-Fire Land Management
Landowners should keep mitigation methods in mind to avoid catastrophic damages due to fires. One of the major ways to reduce the fuel loads is to take into account Wildfire and Fuel Management and to ultimately, fight fire with fire.

Fire Recovery by Sonoma Resource Conservation District. Sonoma RCD can help land owners prepare for and recover from disasters that effect rural environments. They work with USDA NRCS to obtain grants and other resources for landowner projects.
Fire Recovery Guide by CA Native Plant Society with local partners after the 2017 North Bay fires. Not only is the Guide meant to provide best-practice instructions and resources, we also hope it will encourage conversations about how we can live with fire in an increasingly fire-prone state, while also ensuring there is a place for the beautiful plants and incredible wildlife that make living in California so special.
Fire Adapted Communies
Fire adapted communities are knowledgeable, engaged communities where actions of residents and agencies in relation to infrastructure, buildings, landscaping and the surrounding ecosystem lessen the need for extensive protection actions and enable the communities to safely accept fire as part of the surrounding landscape. Because every community is unique, the steps and strategies they take to improve their wildfire resilience will vary from place to place.
