Serving as the bridge between local issues and the power of UC research, our more than 300 campus-based specialists and county-based advisors work as teams to bring practical, unbiased, science-based answers to Californians.
We seek an academic advisor who can conduct a multi-county-based extension, education, and applied research program to optimize agronomic field and row crop systems with an emphasis on forage crops, wheat, safflower, processing tomatoes, dry beans, corn, and hybrid seed crops.
We seek an advisor who is:
A researcher, who can develop an applied research program and evaluate programs and report accomplishments, results, and potential or actual impacts to scientific and lay audiences.
A skilled educator who can deliver an ongoing extension education program using traditional, contemporary, and emerging tools that address the needs of growers, industry, and other clients in the area served and are appropriate for the audience and situation.
A collaborator who can develop partnerships and leverage resources to deliver innovative approaches that will develop, strengthen and expand the local delivery of statewide programs; one who can collaborate with UC ANR Program Teams, workgroups, and specialists; academics at a local and national level; the private sector, and others within the research/extension network.
A visionary, who can complement UC ANR’s Strategic Vision, optimizing opportunities for conducting outstanding research and extension programs that meet the needs of Californians.

Colusa is centrally located approximately 70 miles north of Sacramento in the Western portion of the lower Sacramento Valley with an economy rooted in agriculture. The area features numerous waterways, natural and man-made, that support an abundance of wildlife such as ducks, blue herons, cranes, deer, hawks, and pheasant. The outdoor enthusiast will find a wealth of recreational activities close at hand; three National Wildlife Refuges are in the immediate area; Lake Oroville a 1-hour drive; the Sierra Nevada Mountains and their world-class snow resorts within a 2-1/2 hour drive; the more remote Trinity Alps a 3-hour drive.
This position is an academic career track appointment; a minimum of a Master's Degree is required, though other advanced degrees are encouraged, in disciplines such as agronomy, horticulture, plant sciences, pest management or other closely related fields. An educational background and/or work experience in crop production, irrigation, plant physiology, weed science, entomology, plant pathology or soil science is desirable.
