 2013 CQ Theme Needed

Calling all great ideas!  We are in need of a theme for the 2013 Sonoma County 4-H Chickenque.  Please submit your ideas to me at mohrmanjr@aol.com.  

This theme will be included in the tshirt contest, so we need to have it set soon. Leaders and members… put on your thinking caps and get those ideas in!  As a committee, we will discuss and chose a theme.

 Free horses to a good home

I have 2 horses that I no longer use.

 I used to do 4-H many years ago and know that some kids might be wanting or needing a project horse. Is there a way you can put the word out to some families to see if they would like them? They would be free to a 4-H family only. They do need work; I haven't been able to be active with them for about a year. One horse is a broke Buckskin Quarter Horse Gelding, he's registered, beautiful and about 9 years old. I adore him and ONLY want him to go to someone he will be loved like crazy by. The second is a little paint mini-horse, who has been my QH's company. He can go free too, only to a loving home. Thank you for your help and time.

4-H Archery Certification Training for volunteers and junior/teen leaders

will be offered Saturday, January 19^th, 9 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday, January 20^th, 8 AM- 12 noon, at the Livermore-Pleasanton Rod & Gun Club, 4000 Dagnino Road, Livermore, CA 94551 in Alameda County.  You must be an enrolled 4-H leader or member and attend both days to receive certification to teach archery at the project, club and camp levels.   The course will include a PowerPoint lecture, review of equipment, practice shooting and teaching, and a written test.   The cost is $50 per person to include a resource binder, range fees, and Saturday lunch.  Overnight  RV parking, water & power only, is available for an additional fee.

To register, please complete and mail the “CA  4-H Shooting Sports Training Request and Registration Form” available at  http://www.ca4h.org/files/2123.pdf,  and an adult or youth 4-H medical release form and a $50 check payable to “De Arroyo 4-H Club” to  Jennifer Siders,  4967 Erica Way, Livermore, CA 94550.  Registration is due Monday, January 7^th and space is limited.  For more information call Jenny at 925-321-6009 or email her at jsiders@gmail.com.

 Sonoma County Animal Care and Control has received $1,500 from local non-profit Friends of the Animals in the Redwood Empire (FAIRE) to provide additional funding for the low-cost spay/neuter voucher program through the end of the year.  Qualifying low-income county residents may receive a dog or cat spay/neuter voucher to redeem at participating veterinary clinics that provide spay/neuter surgeries for $20 for a dog and $10 for a cat.

Please help us spread the word to community members needing help to spay/neuter their pets.

Application deadlines are approaching soon, and we want to give 4-H alumni and Collegiate 4-Hers an opportunity to make a difference during their spring or summer semester. Our PAs will be touching the lives of thousands of high school-aged students from all over the United States while working for our Wonders of Washington (WOW) or Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) programs in Washington, DC.

We are looking for individuals with at least a high school diploma (preferably some college experience) and a passion for youth development, hospitality, teaching, history, politics, or leadership. If you know a college student looking for credit towards graduation, National 4-H Council will happily work with the student and the school to make this possible.

Wonders of Washington Program Assistant

The WOW program gives young people the chance to explore, develop, and refine the skills necessary to become outstanding citizens and leaders in their home communities. Using the living classroom of Washington, D.C., youth learn about the history of our nation, its various leaders, and how they can put their skills of leadership and citizenship into use when they return home. Throughout the spring semester, WOW Program Assistants receive opportunities for professional development not only through interactions with youth groups, but also through interactions with various departments of National 4-H Council to develop their professional skills.

Citizenship Washington Focus Program Assistant

CWF gives 4-Hers the opportunity to strengthen their communication, leadership, and other citizenship skills on a national level. More than 1,500 young people exchange ideas, practice respect, and form friendships with other youth from diverse backgrounds throughout the summer. Through hands-on activities, simulations, and tours of various monuments and memorials, participants figure out what citizenship means to them and develop action plans to make a difference in their home communities. As a CWF Program Assistant, these 4-H leaders will create, develop, and facilitate curriculum to be used during the 2013 program.
