The Job Interview Contest will once again take place during State Field Day on May 27, 2017. The 2017 Job Descriptions for the State 4-H Interview Contest have been released and are now available on the State Website. I have also attached the descriptions to this email for your convenience. Please disseminate this information throughout your counties. 4-H Shooting Sports Workshop - Rifle Discipline, Bakersfield, CA Saturday, March 18, 2017 – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017 – 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. A 4-H shooting sports workshop for the rifle discipline will be held at the UC Cooperative Extension Office, 1031 S. Mt. Vernon Avenue in Bakersfield. Participants must attend both days of training to receive certification. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will be certified as a rifle trainer and can lead a rifle project at the club level or serve as county trainer to certify other leaders. 2017 UC Davis, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Field Day March 3-4, 2017 at UC Davis Registration due February 3, 2017 The UC Davis, College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Field Day will take place March 3-4, 2017 at UC Davis. This field day is open to both FFA and 4-H members. 4-H members may compete in any of the contests offered. Please note that the Livestock Judging, the Poultry Judging and the Dairy Judging contests are considered State qualifiers to attend the National events. 4-H State Cooking Competition - at the California State Fair JULY 25th July may seem far way, but it's the season for cooking! 4-H members 9 and older are invited to participate in the 4-H State Cooking Competition at the California State Fair. In preparation for this event we suggest Project Leaders use the Cooking 101 curriculum (available here: Cooking 101 curriculum ). The 2017 impromptu categories, special recognition topics, and revised 4-H Presentation Manual are now available on the State 4-H website!
Special Recognition Opportunities at State 4-H Presentation Day California 4-H offers thematic recognition pins for youth who participate at State 4-H Presentation Day and focus their presentations on one of the four focus areas. Impromptu Speech Topics for State 4-H Presentation Day The impromptu speech topics for the 2017 State Presentation Day have been released. For more information about the impromptu speech category, please review the 2016 4-H Presentation Manual.
California 4-H Presentation Manual (Version 2016) Significant revisions to the 4-H Presentation Manual were made in October, 2016 based on data gathered from the 2016 State Presentation Day and public feedback gathered through an online survey in June, 2016. Significant revisions include:
- Recalibrating the scoring key to ensure better distribution of awards between red, blue, and gold.
- Improving weighting on the evaluation forms, including middle points.
- Providing additional clarification on references, visual aids, and costumes.
- Allowing only evaluators to ask questions
- 4-H Project Sheets
http://4h.ucanr.edu/Projects/Project_Sheets/ 4-H project sheets are designed to help 4-H volunteers determine meaningful content and lead youth in hands-on activities. 4-H youth and their families may use these sheets to decide which project they might be interested in.

Property Needed for 4-H Animal Project Property needed in Rincon Valley, Kenwood, Calistoga Road area for 4-H market pig project. My kids have been raising pigs for 7 years at someone else's property and unfortunately for us, her business is expanding and she needs the space we were using.
