We Need YOUR Input!
On November 21st all 4-H adult volunteers in California will be invited via email to complete a quick survey about their views of 4-H participation. Your feedback will inform local county and state 4-H staff about your how you view your role in expanding participation in the 4-H program. This type of information promotes the creation of new trainings and curriculum to help improve the program. The survey will come to you from noreply@qemailserver.com it's not junk mail—it's from us!

This field day is open to both FFA and 4-H members. 4-H members may compete in any of the contests offered. Please note that the Livestock Judging, the Poultry Judging and the Dairy Judging contests are considered State qualifiers to attend the National events. Special Recognition Opportunities at State 4-H Presentation Day
California 4-H offers thematic recognition pins for youth who participate at State 4-H Presentation Day and focus their presentations on one of the four focus areas. California 4-H Presentation Manual (Version 2016)
Significant revisions to the 4-H Presentation Manual were made in October, 2016 based on data gathered from the 2016 State Presentation Day and public feedback gathered through an online survey in June, 2016. Significant revisions include:
- Recalibrating the scoring key to ensure better distribution of awards between red, blue, and gold.
- Improving weighting on the evaluation forms, including middle points.
- Providing additional clarification on references, visual aids, and costumes.
- Allowing only evaluators to ask questions

My friend couldn't keep her Rabbits with their move so they have ended up at my property. They need good homes. We have a mix of breeds; Flemish Giant, New Zealand Whites, Lop Ears and a Havana mix. November 2016: Promote Bio-Security in Your 4-H Animal Science Projects

Animal science projects are a hallmark of the 4-H program and help prepare the next generation of farmers, ranchers, foresters, veterinarians, and agricultural scientists. The raising and showing of animals poses bio-security risks. Youth need to cultivate an appreciation for and develop the skills necessary to help reduce the risk of disease spread to animals and humans. 4-H supports proper management practices for bio-security and we are asking animal science 4-H project leaders to help! New curricula is available.

A new one-day volunteer development event for 4-H volunteer leaders in Sonoma, Marin, and Napa counties. The focus is to support skill and relationship building between fellow 4-H volunteer leaders for both project-specific areas as well as other 4-H topics to help improve youth engagement and learning. Keynote speaker is Temple Grandin!

Her history with 4-h started at the age of 9 at Bennett valley 4-H, as a child she fell in love with goats. Her parents, both 4-H volunteers, and members themselves as children, it is a family passion. “I started with Beef and dairy cows, but then I went to Redwood Hill and saw the baby goats.” That was it, she was hooked. “I went to 5 fairs a year minimum!” she truly enjoys raising goats. “As a child, I was way more reserved, 4-H helped me come out of my shell understand who I was and how I should project myself to the world.” Now she wants to provide that same service to children today. Sonoma County at SLF:
Hello Sonoma County 4-H Community,
It is with such pride and gratitude that I report back from STate 4-H Leaders' Forum 2016 which concluded on November 13 at the Flamingo Resort. The All Stars, Francesca Pharo and Courtney King, presented the flags in the Opening Ceremony. Mary Lavell, Emily Lavell and Caroline Hampton spent an entire day helping out in the silent auction which allowed Barbara and Charlotte LeGallee to attend workshops. Lisa Jack arrived on Friday with a gorgeous basket full of items from the County Dairy Goat project. They also made lotion to give to the committee and speakers. Then, Lisa set up the Hospitality Room and helped out arranging items in the silent auction. Judy Butke secured a donation from the California Dairywomen's Association, so the delegates snacked on ice cream bars from Three Twins. Snacking doesn't get any better than that. The county donated a charming 'basket' with fun Sonoma County items. The County Wildlife project donated an owl box, cut out by dad, Dan Lavell, with wood burned decorations by mom, Misha Brown, along with owl related books, socks, candles, etc. The Sequoia 4-H club Leathercraft project members shared their expertise with the delegates during the Make and Take session. Also in that session were reps from 4-H camp, the Lavells and Gianna Lovell, who provided leather and braiding experiences. Judy Ludovise has provided continuous support and encouragement during the planning process. Diego Marical brought his informative Afterschool information to the Poster Session. Steven Worker presented two workshops.Such positive energy and generosity from the Sonoma County 4-H community. Many thanks to all of you for your contributions of time and goods.
