This position is located in San Diego, California.

The Water Quality and Management Cooperative Extension (CE) advisor will address multiple water and water-related issues including: storm water management, runoff and pollution such as Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) in impacted waterways; issues related to recycled water use such as effects on landscapes and agriculture and possible pollutants such as pharmaceuticals, and policy issues such as water-rights in San Diego County. Primary emphasis will be on agricultural water quality, water policy and managing agriculture/urban interface issues, and the environment.

The County Director is responsible for the coordination and overall operation of Cooperative Extension programs in San Diego County.  Responsibilities include leadership and oversight of all CE research and extension programs including effective management and supervision of all staff and academic personnel including oversight, evaluation (annual evaluations, merit and promotions), mentoring, coaching and discipline. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining effective communication with the University and San Diego County government, the San Diego County CE budget, developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with public and private agencies including San Diego County. 

All UC ANR CE advisors are responsible for performance in the areas of 1) applied research and creative activity, 2) extension of knowledge and information, 3) professional competence and activity and 4) University and public service.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of a master's degree is required, though other advanced degrees are encouraged, in disciplines such as Water Resources, Environmental Science, Agricultural Science or other closely related discipline with an emphasis on agricultural water quality, water policy and managing agriculture/urban interface issues, and/or environment issues. Experience and demonstrated excellence in applied research and extension is preferred.  The ability to build partnerships and to work with multidisciplinary teams to address complex challenges is required. Experience managing and evaluating human, financial and technical resources and programs, is highly desirable.  Experience effectively managing and resolving conflict is highly desirable. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required.
