Let the be light .... solar light!

Construction continues on the Rod Shippey Education & Field Lab facility at the UC Hopland Research & Extension Center in southeast Mendocino County.   The large conference room/field lab facility is slated for completion sometime this fall, and future blog posts will inform you along the way.

The building is has many innovative features to demonstrate energy efficiency and to tie the building to the natural oak woodland landscape.  One of the planned energy efficiency demos is the use of several strategically located solar tubes to allow the use of natural light in the museum lab room and the catering kitchen.  

The last photo does not do justice to portray just how much soft, diffused light enters the rooms through these devices .... it is absolutely amazing.   See the two (2) photos below.
