Program Information

The 4-H Youth Futures: College Within Reach National Mentoring Program pairs adults with youth in military-connected families to support them in learning about planning for what they decide to do beyond high school related to their education and careers. If you would like to serve as a positive role model for middle and/or high school students and support them as they plan for what they do after high school.

        Major Responsibilities:       

  • Meet with mentees at least 3 hours monthly Plan, organize, and implement meetings with mentees
  • Communicate with your mentee and their parents/guardians routinely
  • Complete monthly activity and time reports
  • Use program provided curriculum to guide reflective conversations with mentees Provide feedback, support, and encouragement to mentees
  • Participate with mentees and families in regional meetings and events Commit to program for one full year

    Qualifications: 

  • Successfully complete the application and screening process (including comprehensive criminal background screening)
    Steps for 4-H Volunteer Registration 
  • Comfortable using technology for reporting and communication
  • Ability to communicate with people of varied backgrounds and education levels
  • Experience working with students ages 12-17




    Training and Preparation:

  • Successfully complete the 4-H Youth Futures College Within Reach mentor orientation and curriculum training
  • Participate in scheduled online training updates and programs
  • Participate in required mentor training Participate in program kickoff event
