Fire Science
Fire is a natural ecosystem process in California. It helped shape California's landscapes through time both by natural and human means. Fire is something to be respected. It is a tool for land managers to create healthy landscapes that can adapt and thrive over time. It can also bring about loss and challenges to communities that live in more fire prone areas. On this page, you will find resources for fire preparedness for homeowners, agriculture, and landowners, post-fire recovery, prescribed burns, and fire science.
Fire Science Advisor Tori Norville promotes a program for Sonoma, Napa, and Marin Counties to educate about the importance of fire within the California ecosystem and working holistically across the landscape with vegetation management and forest stewardship. This program utilizes education, research, and outreach to help adapt our communities to live with fire through home hardening and defensible space, promote good fire on the ground with prescribed burns and post-fire recovery.
