Faculty Announcement:  The Assistant Professor of Weed Science is a tenure-track faculty position with 60% extension and 40% research responsibilities. The successful candidate is expected to conduct state-wide extension activities and research in weed ecology and management.  The candidate should take an integrated weed management approach focused on developing management systems that are economically and environmentally sound that include multi-tactic approaches to advancing weed management. Given the rising challenge of herbicide resistant weeds in the region, the candidate is expected to provide leadership on developing and implementing a systems approach that reduces the selection for and increasing abundance of herbicide resistant weeds.  The successful candidate will assume a leadership role in weed science for the statewide Agronomy Extension Team and work in a multidisciplinary team of research scientists, extension specialists, and county-based educators.  Responsibilities include developing an innovative and highly visible extension program in integrated weed management in field and forage crops grown in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  This includes developing educational materials focused on herbicide-based and nonchemical weed control tactics for expanded audiences and providing leadership in developing new weed management recommendations. The successful applicant will develop a strong extramural funded and nationally recognized research program in weed science, publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and train graduate students. The individual must be able to work effectively with diverse populations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in weed science, agronomy, or closely related field and a desire to collaborate in multidisciplinary programs.  The candidate must have strong writing and oral communication skills. An ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the university is required.
