The President's Letter

No rest for the weary!

amanda
With summer activities, vacations, and the first days of school behind us, we’ve now firmly turned our attention to getting the new 4-H year off and running. The Annual Leader Training was held on August 22nd at the 4-H Center and our hope is that club leaders have had their burning questions answered, their concerns laid to rest and that they’ve gained the tools and knowledge to make this year a smooth and successful one!

The All Stars/Rising Stars are also back from their team building activity on August 23rd and are ready to set out bringing their ideas to life and reaching their goals.  First up on their list will be Officer Installation, taking place the evening of September 17th at the 4-H Center.  Stay tuned for more details!

We hope that you had a wonderful time at the Sonoma County 4-H Foundation BBQ on August 29th, and with that event now behind us the next one to look forward to is the North Central Sectional Citizenship Weekend held September 25th to 27th at the Marin Headlands Hostel in Sausalito.  There are still a few spots left and it is first come/first served so be sure to check out the link to learn more about all the amazing activities that are planned and register for the weekend.

Our first CCC meeting is September 1st at 7pm at the 4-H Office in Santa Rosa.  Please be sure to send representative of your club to each CCC meeting as they are generally packed full of important events and programs throughout the county.

I look forward to seeing you then!

Sonoma County All Stars' Introductions

My name is Melanie Hanlon, I am 15 years old, and I am so excited to be a 2015-2016 Sonoma County All-Star! I have been a member of Liberty 4-H for 11 years and my projects include rabbit leadership, pygmy goats, market lambs, dairy cattle, canning and food preservation, and cooking. I am currently a junior at Petaluma High School where I am also an active member of Petaluma FFA. Outside of 4-H, I also enjoy playing soccer. This year, I am really looking forward to becoming more involved in the 4-H program and getting to know all of the county members better. I cannot wait for the great year ahead!

My name is Savannah Schell, I am a senior and I am proud to be a Sonoma County All Star. What is an All Star? To me, it’s a position achieved through years of hard work and dedication to 4-H and your community. When I first started 4-H, I never thought I could ever achieve this position. At the time I was 9, and the whole idea of being an All Star seemed so daunting. Then I took it one step at a time. First I started as Song and Rec my second year of 4-H, then slowly, year by year, I moved up the ranks. One community service after the next, until I worked on my biggest project, my Emerald Star. That gave me the confidence to take my leadership skills to a county level.

My name is Blake Mae Southard and I am a senior at Windsor High School. This year will be my eleventh year in the Alexander Valley 4-H Club. This year I am participating in the cooking, dog care & training, sheep, rabbit, and photography projects. I also plan of being the teen leader for the dog care and training and the rabbit project. I love being a teen leader because it means that I can be a role model to younger members and help them with their projects and help them achieve their goals. I am very excited for this year and what it has to hold. As an All-Star this year I plan on getting more people involved with 4-H programs and getting people excited about what 4-H has to offer.

Annual Poster Promotion

We would like to get the word out about 4-H in your community, so we are asking those of you who are interested, to design a poster about “Why One Should Join 4-H.” The poster should include a number to call, and something you think would be of interest to kids and adults in your community. The poster can be designed to promote your club or for the county as a whole. This is what you will need to do if you would like to participate.

Poster Promotion Rules

What's Your Focus?

Focus
What does it mean to be a good citizen or a leader? Are you being a strong civic leader for your community, country and world?

For more than 50 years, thousands of high school youth from all across the country have travelled to Washington, DC each summer to partake in the preeminent 4-H citizenship and leadership experience—Citizenship Washington Focus. And in summer 2014 we will introduce the precursor to CWF, the first national 4-H event designed exclusively for middle school 4-H’ers, Leadership Washington Focus.

We have welcomed high school 4-H’ers to put their leadership skills to work in their communities and now we are looking build more 4-H leaders with LWF so they can return as a delegate to CWF.

CWF and LWF are more than just another DC field trip – 4-H'ers learn essential civic leadership skills and leave with the tools that will allow them to bring about real change in their communities.

CWF and LWF are the only national summer citizenship and leadership programs offered exclusively to 4-H members. For more information go to the Click Here.
