Viticulture Project

About the Project

Do you want to learn more about the various grape varieties, how grapes grow, and pruning techniques? ….then the County Viticulture Project is for you. 

Our meetings include tours of a vineyard, learning about trellis systems, the growing process of different varieties of grapes, how and when to prune the grapevines, and when grapes are ready for Harvest.  

You will also be able to sharpen your pruning skills and increase your viticulture knowledge in preparation for the

Register now for the 12th Annual Saralee’s Sonoma County Youth Pruning Contest and 9th Annual Viticulture Challenge to be held on Saturday, January 16, at 9:30am with registration check-in beginning at 9:00am.

This event will be at SRJC Shone Farm, 6225 Eastside Road, Forestville. Entry forms are due no later than January 14, 2016.

The Pruning Contest is open to all Sonoma County Youth, including 4-H, FFA and High School Viticulture students in the following age brackets: Ages 9 – 11, Ages 12 – 13, Ages 14 – 15, and Ages 16 – 19. The Viticulture Challenge is also open to students aged 5-8.
